Week 3: Day 17

Week 3: Day 17

On Tuesday May 3rd, Team 1 visited the Bright Start Hotel, in Gate village, DIFC. The four seasons hotel shall replace an existing building. Mr Pat Doyle, the project manager, discussed with us the different challenges and concerns. One major constraint is the building itself. Engineers had to work around the existing structure, thinking of convenient ways to reinforce the slabs once they drill through it for MEP works and lift shafts. Another constraint is the noise control. The site is located in a crowded area, where high construction noises would raise complaints from annoyed neighbors. Mr Doyle along with his well-experienced team worked out innovative solutions to address all the issues. Following a safety induction, we accompanied Mr Doyle in a site tour where we witnessed the ongoing demolition works.

In the afternoon, we visited Albonian headquarters. Albonian is a company of more than 25 years of experience in MEP works and installation, operating in several countries in the MENA region. In their presentation, Albonian's engineers discussed the company's scope of works highlighting the different divisions of mechanical and electrical work. In addition, the engineers asserted the importance of green buildings and environmental sustainability and went through the currently used substitutes that minimize energy consumption.
