Week 3: Day 15

Bright Start Beach Resort Site Visit

Today was our site visit to one of DCC’s hugest project: Bright Start Beach Resort, which will be launched as the Four Season Hotel, located on Plot No. 33 (337-0) 33, Old Block Zabeel Second at Gate Village, Business Bay, Dubai. The client of this 5 Star Hotel is Bright Start L.L.C, the Client Representative is H&H Investement & Development, the international Architect is WTAG and the local Architect is Erga; the Interior Designer is Tihany Design NY and the Resident Engineer  taking care of MEP works and following up with authorities is Haidar.

Bright Start project is a Lumpsum contract of with initial value of 395 Million AED, but the actual value has reached 500 Million AED. The total built up area around 15,000 m2 and the Plot area is around 1,600 m2. The project started in 2012 and it is expected to finish in July 2014.
Upon our arrival, we had a 45 mins meeting in the Meeting Room where we were given a general idea about the project by Mr. Jihad Choueiry, the Project Manager and explained the Safety Induction steps taken by DCC in all of its projects.

Then Mr. Choueiry took us on a tour around the whole project area.
The project scope of work is mainly the Main Hotel, the external landscaping and the Perimeter wall surrounding the whole area.
The main Hotel consists of a basement, a ground floor, 5 floors and a roof. The external landscaping includes two outdoor swimming pools, a certain number of cabanas, walkways, trees and vegetation.

During our tour, we were amazed by the expensive types of finishes used, from which we can list the 24 Carats Gold Mosaic on the walls of the first floor, the spa and pool areas which cost 1600$/m2 and the 3D Marble columns, aka Open Book columns which cost around 100,000$ /column. The entrance of the ground floor includes Glass reinforced Concrete (GRC) which is a precast concrete decorative structure fixed on the outside areas using metallic screws. The flooring finishing is mainly marble, carpet and timber; the ceiling finishing is gypsum board, and the wall finishing depends on the type of the room: it can be plaster and paint, wallpaper, marble or timber.

The works gradually varies when we go up in the different floors: the first floor is completed and furnished but as we go up, the work is still in its testing and finishing stages. There were also some sound testing in the ballroom, fire alarm testing in the business meeting area and some light testing in the male spa area.
The lifts in all the building are finished and approved as safe for usage.
The roof top is divided into 2 areas: first, a bar and lounge and second, a mechanical area where all the solar panels, antennas, cooling equipment operate.

Our tour ended by visiting the parking with anti-carbonated walls and ceiling to absorb the smoke coming from the cars; and the back of houses where the staff accommodation area and hotel kitchens are located; the hygiene and maintenance are very taken care of in this particular area.

Basketball Playoffs

The evening finished off with 3 games of basketball for the tournament. Everyone played really hard and had loads of fun. Team S made it to the final, so the next game will be team A against team D and the winner will compete head to head with team S in the final.

Then Mr. Yabroudi took us out to Shakespeare restaurant as a late-night dinner treat and we also ordered Shisha to relax and have some fun.
