Week 1: Day 1

First Day in the Office

Today was an introductory session about the internship program.

Upon our arrival to the company's headquarters, we were greeted by Mr Yabroudi in his office, who warmly welcomed us to the program.

We then proceeded to our offices, where each one of us settled in  his/her own fully equipped desk. Safety bags were then distributed, in addition to a number of booklets detailing the lectures to come. Afterwards, we accompanied Mr Bassam Haddad in a tour, where we were introduced to the company's history, different departments and the jobs handled by each, and inter dependencies between these departments.

Good thing we were really attentive because we were surprised with a quiz when we came back!

Lecture No. 1: Safety Codes and Standards + Safety on DCC Construction Sites

After lunch, we attended 2 successive lectures about Applicable Safety Codes and Standards, and Safety On DCC Construction Sites by Mr. Pat Doyle, DCC Project Manager. Mr Doyle discussed safety standards, more specifically OSHA; in addition, he highlighted the safety guideline followed by DCC and stressed on how serious of an issue safety matters are at DCC work sites. We wrapped things up by a Q/A session where Mr Doyle answered all our inquiries.

Lectures finished at 4:00pm and we headed back to our apartments.

At night, we decided to go on a tour in Dubai city to see what it is like at night. We took the Metro; destination: Dubai mall. We toured inside the huge amazing structure of  Dubai Mall for around 45 minutes and arrived outside just on time to watch the spectacular fountain show in front of the tallest building in the world: Burj Khalifa.

After the show, the SU students wanted to try Lebanese Food, hence the LAU students accompanied them to a Lebanese restaurant inside Dubai Mall where they enjoyed the healthy and famous Lebanese plates.
